Zong Huawei Ideos review

ZONG HUAWEI IDEOS

Zong recently advertised its Android phone offer, basically the offer gives Huawei Ideos Android OS powered phone which is targeted at users with limited budget in South Asia and Europe. What this phone provides features wise is really impressive at Rs. 16000 ($200) price point. It has got latest Android 2.2 Froyo OS, 528Mhz processor, 3.2MP Camera, WIFI, USB connectivity, Accelerometer and MicroSD card slot. This kind of hardware is no way one is going to get with Sony Ericsson, Nokia or any other manufacturer at the same price.

Huawei IDEOS potential and possibilities

Considering the phone is manufactured by Huawei one can easily guess that it is targeted for limited budget consumers, but this phone packs quite some super powers underneath its "usual looks" make no mistakes. This phone is loaded with latest Android 2.2 OS which means it is ready for fast and optimized mobile phone experience, as its android powered you have plethora of applications ready to install on your phone from Android market and great voice recognition ability. If this isn't enough, one can download Android SDK and start developing one's very own Android OS apps.

Huawei IDEOS

The Good is all what they Advertise

According to Google data, cell phone users use cell phones primarily for calling, then for messaging and at third spot they use it for INTERNET surfing, IDEOS  supports WIFI wireless N which means you will be able to use your home internet as much as you want on your IDEOS smart phone, Android 2.2 OS also lets you tether your phone internet to other devices like your laptop.

The Bad is what they don't Advertise

Although this phone is still great for its price but it hugely lacks one feature which may disappoint 90% of even price conscious consumers out here, it is NO FLASH CONTENT (Games and Videos). Apparently they say that the IDEOS processor is not capable to process flash content, no flash means no Youtube and almost 100% rich media blackout on IDEOS internet experience. Its one nay side of this phone which is really A DEAL BREAKER.

Other than that it has very low Graphics Processing Power, which means you won't be able to play high quality graphics games for android.

EDIT: It seems like it does support flash content (thanks to visitors), please see full specs HERE. It was found that IDEOS have built in YouTube client that lets you watch Youtube videos (Mobile version), but you may not be able to go to any site with flash content and expect it to work.

Yay or Nay?

This phone is great for its price and as already mentioned, you won't be getting a phone with same specs from NOKIA or any other big manufacturer, its a good deal but as buying this phone means you are spending $200 or Rs. 16000, at $300 (Rs. 24000) - $350 (Rs. 30000) one can get HTC Magic which is far better and decent in terms of, well ... everything. No flash content is a very serious disappointment/disability (it does support Youtube but there are games built for flash as well, which may not be supported) for any smart phone and it really makes a smart phone your regular cell phone with this small difference, however IDEOS is technically a smart phone as long as it comes with Android OS. Consumers of this phone would be one who doesn't care much about its flash disability.

I haven't used a smart phone - but interested in one. Want to use for phoning, texting, emailing, gpsing, maybe a bit more. Will someone please write about on screen keyboard, connectivity to a pc, office application for it (e.g. documents opener, pdf reader... email attachment reading) Would also love to hear if one used its GPS (is it GPS or AGPS, and does gps work without sim?), available s/w for it, and any/other software available and may be used with it. Thank you.

You can watch flash videos using apps like skyfire or opera mini. Easy, awesome and free ;)

hmmm, brother as i said earlier, Adobe Flash 10.1 full support is there in Android 2.2, but this phone doesn't have the hardware to support it. Meanwhile all big commercial sites like facebook, youtube also make their mobile versions which can work on iphone/android/ipad etc. so these sites will work no matter what. But to test the flash you will need to open a minor business site which doesn't have the mobile version and see it its opening or not.

well, HTC magic doesn't have flash as well. As its evident from your post that you don't know much about Mobile operating systems. For your information android 2.2 froyo is the ONLY mobile OS that supports flash. There is NONE out-there which supports flash. Youtube etc websites have their versions for mobile phone so that is not a worry. As Huawei said android 2.2 have full flash but this phone doesn't have the hardware to support it. That is quite true. and phone specs are low as you can see 256 MB Ram is not enough. As the latest iphone coming up wiht 1GB ram.

That may be the case, but there is no mention of htc magic supporting flash either :-)
