When we hear about windows vista, all of a sudden few things pop up into our mind, glossiness, shine and all the eye candy that your computer can show. But most of us don't realize the price we pay for the eye candy, when compared to windows xp, following facts were found:
(Note that conditions when no software services runs except windows defaults)
Windows XP:
Ram Usage(Idle): ~150 - 200MB
CPU Usage(Idle): ~0 - 2%
Loading: Almost instant, hard disk reading stops when it completes the loading
Windows Vista:
Ram Usage(Idle): ~800MB - 1.2 GB
CPU Usage(Idle): ~2 - 10%
Loading: Loading continues for a while, some services prioritized to load after computer loads everything else
Does it still worth to have vista on our systems when we know XP is more error free (aka patched up) and faster?
What makes Vista a partial success in the market right now is definately prebuild systems that different vendors make, Dell, HP, Compaq being one of them. Its obvious that Vista has no market in the world of geeks. There are number of strategies that vendors are using these days that makes even harder for people to downgrade to Windows XP, one of them being Driver Support, you will be amazed that the new computers that Dell is selling right now has no Driver support for Window XP.
