PTCL 10Mbps Broadband DSL Package

ptcl 10mbpsToday 10/10/10, PTCL announced 10Mbps DSL package for about Rs. 9999/- per month. PTCL currently maintains five DSL packages which are 1M (Rs. 1199), 4M(Rs. 1999), 6M(Rs. 4999), 8M(Rs. 6999) and finally 10M.

Considering 10Mbps for a home environment would not be a good idea unless one does some sort of online business but still 10Mbps for a home would be an overkill. With a 10Mpbs connection one would be theoretically be able to download 84.375 GB/day and roughly 2.47 TB/month, given that one constantly squeeze 1024KB/s all day long without turning off his PC and one doesn't run out of hard disk space.

But given the current electricity conditions, chance that you constantly use a 10Mbps connection to its maximum limits at every time is very low. So what is it good for? definitely medium to large corporations with a number of users (5-20) who need to get to internet for office work. Other than that, for online gaming it would still be a lot.

We still aren't even close to DSL speeds and their pricing world wide, 10M connection is good to have but its price factor is one huge set back. There will be no or extremely few mainstream converts (users from 1M and 4M packages). Now all we are looking for is how other ISPs respond to this offer.

ya you maybe right, also we have to keep in mind that we get SHARED not DEDICATED link or lets say not a dedicated 10Mbps, so there maybe a way around to transmit/receive a SHARED 10Mbps link on the very same phone line, however i am not sure...

theoretically phone lines and ADSL 2+ standard that runs on phone lines can support up to 24Mbps, but a ptcl DSL dept. employee told me that only 18Mbps is achievable.
